Ol Pejeta, Kenya.
The Queen is a frameless Lumachrome Trulife print on acrylic, 36 × 54 inches, from an edition of 6. Printed to archival standard.
The photograph
Najin.
Najin is one of the last two northern white rhinos on Earth. Her daughter, Fatu, is the other. Born in a zoo in the Czech Republic, she has lived at Ol Pejeta in Kenya since 2009.
I spent a good hour and a half with her and her caretaker, Zachariah, in the summer of 2023. Toward sunset I watched her graze and gave her space to do what she does best.
